There are many types of herbs and spices that you can grow in your own garden. Just because they are not native to your area does not mean that they will not grow well in your climate. However, you need to be careful with exotic and other foreign varieties. Not all native plants are safe to use in your home garden and the same is true of many of the imported varieties as well.
Basil is one of the most versatile and useful herbs. It has a delightful aroma that reminds many people of the smell of fresh baked bread or even the aroma of hot dog. It comes in two species: Allspice and Parsley.
Both species are used for cooking in a variety of cuisines. While Allspice adds an aromatic flavor to meats, such as pork, beef and chicken, it is also used to give beverages such as coffee and tea a green taste. When growing basil in a post, it is best to grow it in large pots that have a wide opening. It should be planted in the southern or western direction. This type of basil grows best in rich soil with lots of light.
In addition to being used for culinary uses, herbs can be used as an aroma therapy for both relaxation and medical purposes. Herbs such as Lavender, Chamomile and Peppermint are often used in aromatherapy spas and massages because of their pleasant scents. Some of these herbs have antispasmodic, vasodilative and anti-inflammatory properties. If you suffer from arthritis, back pain or joint pain, you may find relief by using your herb garden. Lemon balm and mint are saying to sooth inflamed and painful areas. Other herbs that help with the relief of rheumatoid arthritis include St. John’s Wort and Yucca.
Although there are hundreds of different varieties of herbs, most of them come from one family, the Lavandula. Most of these herbs are used fresh in Italian cooking. For example, basil is the most commonly available fresh herb in Italian cooking. It can be added to pasta sauce, soup and meat dishes. In France, herbs such as Rosemary, thyme and oregano are commonly used as ingredients.
There are two types of herbs that you might use fresh. Parsley, marjoram, dill, sage, chervil, lemon balm and tarragon are all types of herbs that can be kept on your kitchen window sill. These types of herbs do not need to be kept inside the refrigerator because of the bitter taste. The bitter taste is from the enzymes in the leaves and stems.
In addition to keeping herbs on your kitchen window sill, you can also use herbs on your kitchen counter. The best herbs to use on your counter top are mints, cloves, cilantro, parsley, thyme, oregano, basil and marjoram. Mint is the most common choice, but any of these herbs can be placed in a blender and blended on the stove. The taste is much sweeter when the basil, thyme or mint is mixed into the tomatoes instead of the juice from the tomatoes.
As you can see, there are many types of herbs and spices that are commonly used in cuisines throughout the world. However, if you are looking for a particular herb or spice, you may want to find cuisines where that particular herb or spice is used. This will give you the most flavorful result. If you do not have access to certain types of fresh herbs or spices, you can always substitute a less flavorful herb or spice to give your meal a flavor boost.
